AHP’s Ashwagandha (Withania somnfera) Monograph and Therapeutic Compendium was one of the first developed soon after our founding. More than 20 years has passed and there have been many new developments in all things Ashwagandha; new studies, new compounds identified, more advanced analytical methodologies, new products, and the introduc-tion of leaf products into the market. Also, Ashwagandha has been one of the best-selling of all botanicals in recent years.
As AHP Monographs and Therapeutic Compendiums represent the most comprehensive and critically reviewed body of information on herbal medicines in the English language, it is important that they reflect the most recent data. Thus, we would like to secure funding that would allow us to update and revise the current work. We encourage those in industry with a stake in Ashwagandha to pool their financial resources to make this a reality. We invite you to consider the attached proposal and contribute to this revision process, both financially and technically. Each sponsor will have the ability to appoint a scientific reviewer to the review process. That reviewer will be acknowledged on the finished publication. Additionally, each Monograph Sponsor will be acknowledged for their support in press releases at the time of sponsorship and at the time of release of the Monograph. We encourage Sponsors to generate their own public relations regarding their support of this important work. Lastly, we encourage Sponsors to purchase multiple copies of the finished Monograph and Therapeutic Compendium at a discounted rate to give to key customers with a cover letter informing them of your involvement with its creation. If any of your products were subject to formal scientific investigation, they will be listed by name in the publication, a fact that can be pointed out in your public relations information providing added marketing value to your sponsorship.
All AHP monographs are developed by acknowledged experts in the field of medicinal plants and include a diverse array of experts in botany, pharmacognosy, natural products chemistry and analysis, pharmacology, toxicology, and traditional herbal medicine. The Ashwagandha Root Revision Monograph will be no exception. As with all AHP monographs, a suite of scientifically valid identification tests will be provided, along with appropriate drawings and photographic images to help in the identification of the species.
Sincerely,

Roy Upton, President
