OTTO STICHER, PhD
October 8, 1936 – March 11, 2022
Otto Sticher, professor emeritus of pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical biology emeritus at the ETH Zürich, Switzerland, was one of the most influential natural products researchers in all of Europe. AHP was introduced to Professor Sticher and his wife Miriam at an American Society of Pharmacognosy meeting at University of California-Santa Cruz, more than 20 years ago by Dr. Varro (Tip) Tyler. The Stichers and Dr. Tyler were very close friends for decades. Throughout that time, Professor Sticher was always generous with his time and insights in the developmental years of AHP. He was also the epitome of a true gentleman and scholar that we would all do well to emulate. His passing is a great loss to the natural products community but he leaves behind numerous students who have gone on to make great contributions to the field of pharmacognosy. This perhaps is the greatest legacy for a professor, cultivating generations of future work that benefits humanity and lives beyond one’s lifetime.
We invite you to visit the following memoriams to Professor Sticher prepared by our friends at the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) and University College of London School of Pharmacy (UCL).
