Summary

Botanical medicines in helping to both prevent and manage epidemics have been used for centuries with greater or lesser degrees. More formal use and research of botanicals and select nutrients has similarly occurred since the SARS epidemic of 2003. There is a need for experience and science-informed guidance on the use of supplements to give people the greatest chance for prevention, symptom management, and in some cases, survival.

The information presented will be garnered from front line practitioners, empirical results, and scientific research that suggest benefit. Considering that there are no proven cures or treatments for COVID-19, we are in need of all the therapeutic options as are available.

Sincerely,

Roy Upton, President
American Herbal Pharmacopoeia
